The event will have a story mode based in the Kanto, region, which was the first region players were able to explore the series. This Pokemon GO Tour Kanto Special Research story will feature Professor Willow, who is researching Pokemon in the area. Through this research, players will uncover clues about a “mysterious Pokemon” and eventually encounter a Shiny Ditto.

Once this arc is complete, the Masterwork Research will be unlocked. This will be comprised of a series of challenges. After completing tasks like obtaining a platinum Kanto medal, reaching level 40, catching 30 of each type of Pokemon, walking 151 km, and visiting 151 different PokeStops, players will meet Mew.

The event will play out according to a schedule. Different Pokemon from different regions of Kanto, like Pallet Town or Fuchsia City, will appear during different blocks of time. Each block will happen twice during the event and will feature unique music inspired by the original game. These tracks have been chosen by Junichi Masuda, who composed the soundtrack for Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue.

The full event schedule is as follows. In each case, the time refers to a player’s local time:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: Pallet Town
  • 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Pewter City
  • 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Cerulean City
