Lesley Mathieson, the lead designer of the PSP version, responded to my question with, “Yes, we went ahead and remapped all of the controls to the PlayStation 2 Ratchet. In addition to those you’ve got the normal strafing controls from the PlayStation 2. In general, we tried to make them [the controls] a close a match as possible."
