Fuu-Ki Breezes Into SMT V’s Daily Demon Lineup

Atlus continued its Shin Megami Tensei V daily demon featurette with a new trailer. Uploaded on July 17, 2021 and narrated by voice actor Tomokazu Sugita (who plays Gintama‘s Gintoki and Demon Slayer‘s Gyomei), the latest trailer highlighted Fuu-Ki, a major Oni from Japanese mythology.

In SMT V Fuu-Ki is part of the Brute line, and originated in Japan’s Heian period (from the 8th to 12th centuries). It is connected to the legendary figure Fujiwara-no-Chikata. A great sorcerer Fujiwara-no-Chikata summoned the Four Oni (“Yon-Ki”), and used their power to subjugate the provinces of Ise and Iga. The previously featured Ongyo-Ki was one of the Four Oni. Fuu-Ki, the Wind Oni, performed great deeds and used mighty gusts to send foes flying. Fuu-Ki also helped to originate the legends of the ninja.

In the trailer, Fuu-Ki is seen using wind-element skills like Zandyne, as well as the physical skill Titanomachia. In the player’s party, Fuu-Ki is seen with Kurama Tengu and Silky, who were the SMT V demons for July 16th and 15th, respectively. Fuu-Ki is also seen participating in a demon negotiation with the player, and takes some of the player’s HP in exchange for service.

Besides SMT V,  Fuu-Ki has been featured in numerous Shin Megami Tensei games and spinoffs. Fuu-Ki first appeared in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, but also went on to show up in SMT: Strange Journey, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Apocalypse, and even Persona 4, Persona 5, and Digital Devil Saga.

Fuu-Ki is the 31st daily SMT V demon, with a total of over 200 characters scheduled for a video spotlight. Check out the last 20 featured demons below.
