This Week In Sales: The Wonderful 101 Isn’t Doing So Wonderfully

Last week’s highest-selling game in Japan was Namco Bandai’s Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III – Pride of Justice for the PlayStation 3. The game sold about 40,000 copies at launch on that platform.

Meanwhile, another “high profile” release was PlatinumGames and Nintendo’s The Wonderful 101, which didn’t even manage to crack the top 10. The Wii U exclusive sold a mere 5,000 copies, with Wii U sales dropping for the week as the Obon holiday effect from the week prior wore off.

As previously reported, Nintendo shipped very few copies of the game to retailers in the first place, so either the publisher or retailers themselves (likely both) probably expected low sales of the title, and they weren’t wrong.

Finally, Conception II for the PlayStation Vita and 3DS launched in Japan last week as well. The game sold about 20,000 copies on Vita and an additional 5,000 copies on 3DS. Spike have primarily been marketing the Vita version of the game, and shipped more copies of that version, too, so the sales divide isn’t surprising.
