Pokemon Sun & Moon

Last week, Japan saw a bunch of new releases with SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, Samurai Warriors: Sanada Maru, RPG Maker Fes, and more, but you can probably guess what took the #1 spot. Here’s the latest from Japanese sales tracker Media Create with a look at software and hardware sales from the week of November 21 through November 27, 2016.

At #1, we have—you guess it, Pokémon Sun & Moon with a whopping 375,665 units sold in its second week. Media Create has provided additional detail showing that out of the 375k, 197,000 was from Pokémon Sun and about 179,000 from Pokémon Moon. That’s about 25 percent of its total sales from its debut last week. If you include the Double Pack sales it comes up to about 2,281,000 units for Pokémon Sun & Moon in its second week, a little shy of Pokémon X & Y’s second week which saw 2,340,000 copies sold.

While Pokémon maintains its top position, half of the top-20 chart consists of new titles. At #2 and #3, we have SD Gundam G Generation Genesis on PS Vita with 88,324 units and on PS4 with 87,568 units for a combined total of 175,892 units sold between the two. The PS4 version saw a sell-through of 76.69% and the PS Vita version saw a sell-through rate of 75.13%, and it had stable pre-orders for both versions as well. This strong start tops the previous Gundam title in Gundam Breaker 3 back in March, which sold 141,219 copies.

Samurai Warriors: Sanada Maru placed #4, #6, and #7 with 26,682 copies sold on PS4, 13,049 on PS Vita, and 11,040 on PS3 for a total of 50,771 across all three platforms. Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo managed to sneak in at #5 with 16,916 units sold.

Aikatsu Stars! My Special Appeal placed #8 with 10,087 units sold on Nintendo 3DS, Idea Factory’s Otomate label released Code:Realize – Shukufuku no Mirai, which followed at #9 with 8,250 copies sold for PS Vita. Monster Hunter’s online title got a new pack with Monster Hunter Frontier Z: Beginner’s Package at #10 with 7,341 units sold, and finally, #11 goes to RPG Maker Fes with 7,135 copies sold in its first week.

As far as hardware sales go,the New 3DS saw a fall but it’s understandable considering its inflated numbers with the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon last week, but they’re still pretty high. Meanwhile, the PS4 saw a boost of close to 8,000 units for the standard version and a drop of close to 4,000 for the PlayStation 4 Pro. Meanwhile, the Xbox One saw an impressive bump up to 778 units sold compared to the 186 the week prior, thanks to the release of the Xbox One S model on November 24.
