Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix Facing Shortages in Japan

Sega released Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix for the Nintendo Switch on February 13th in Japan, but it appears the publisher and its retail partners underestimated demand for the game. As of this week, the game is facing shortages across several retail stores.

In a post to the Project Diva blog, Sega apologizes for the stock problems and requests that customers buy the digital version of the game via the Nintendo eShop instead. For those that still wish to buy physical, Sega notes that added shipments will take a little longer to reach the market and recommends reserving a physical copy in advance.

Famitsu reported earlier in the week that Project Diva MegaMix sold 53,606 units in its first week on store shelves. While that isn’t a particularly high figure, MegaMix is performing better than the previous game in the series, Project Diva: Future Tone, which sold 33,527 units at launch in 2017. MegaMix would presumably have been even higher, had Sega and retailers anticipated demand correctly.

To make amends, the company is extending its early buyer bonus—four extra songs—to the game’s second shipment when it arrives on store shelves.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix will be available in western markets later this year.
