This Week In Sales: 14,000 People Bought Tri-Ace’s New Game

Period: The week of January 16th – January 22nd (2012)

Top-seller: Mario Kart 7 – 35,105

Nintendo 3DS sales: 80,960 | Total sales: 4,704,589

PlayStation Vita sales: 15,219 | Total sales: 516,481

Mario Kart 7 remained the leader of the pack last week as new releases got off to a relatively slow start. Sega’s Rhythm Heaven and the Emperor’s Treasure on 3DS was the best-selling new game for the week, at 31,600 copies sold.

The next new release on the top-20 chart was Onechanbara Z: Kagura on the Xbox 360, with 22,000 copies sold. Meanwhile, Konami and Tri-Ace’s 3DS dungeon-crawler, Beyond the Labyrinth (above), sold about 14,000 copies.

Notable new releases that were missing from the chart entirely included Kiki Trick (Wii) and Wipeout 2048 (PlayStation Vita). Speaking of which, Vita sales dropped for another week in a row, with the device being outsold by the PSP again. Next week’s release of Tales of Innocence R may provide some brief respite for the Vita.

On the whole, next week’s chart will be more exciting with Resident Evil: Revelations, Armored Core V and Tales of Innocence R sales to look forward to.
