This Week In Sales: Atlus Commit An Innocent Sin, Namco Go Super Again

Period: The week of April 11th – April 17th (2011)

Top-seller: The 2nd Super Robot Taisen Z – 307,019

Nintendo 3DS sales: 28,252 | Total sales: 897,095

The week of April 11th – 17th saw a flood of rather high-profile releases across the PSP and 3DS. On the frontlines was The 2nd Super Robot Taisen Z, which sold an impressive 307,000 units in its first week. Namco continue to find success on the PSP.

Following at #2 was Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 by Konami on the PlayStation 3 at 86,486 units. Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 actually charted on three different platforms during the week: PlayStation 3, PSP and Nintendo 3DS. The PSP version wasn’t far behind the PS3 one at around 71,000 units.

Here’s a fun fact though: last year, Pro Baseball Spirits 2010 had a stronger debut on PlayStation 3 (just like this year), but ultimately, it was the PSP version that sold more units by quite a wide margin. It should be interesting to see if the same happens this year.

Meanwhile, for some reason, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional actually sold double the amount of units compared to the week prior. For a version update, it’s currently sitting rather pretty at close to 300,000 units. For reference, the original Joker 2 has sold over 1.2 million units, and Professional will probably keep charting for another few weeks.

On to more new games! Atlus released Persona 2: Innocent Sin on the PSP. How’d it do? Well, it moved 62,721 units in its first week, which is a little lower than the Persona remake’s debut, and significantly lower than that of Persona 3 Portable (94,287).

And finally, we come to Pilotwings Resort, with sales of 26,554 units. As suggested before, 3DS hardware (and software as a result) isn’t likely to really take off until a release like, say, Mario Kart later in the year; although perhaps it could benefit with a smaller boost from Ocarina of Time 3D and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D in the summer.
