Period: The week of Jul 25th – Jul 31st (2011)

Top-seller: Rhythm Heaven – 81,938

Nintendo 3DS sales: 16,415 | Total sales: 1,306,156

No new games in Japan managed to grab the top spot away from Rhythm Heaven last week. The Wii game held onto its #1 spot on the chart for the second week in a row, with nearly another 82,000 copies sold.

Under it at #2 was Queen’s Gate: Spiral Chaos by Namco Bandai, selling close to 67,000 copies on the PSP.

At #3 was Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 (pictured above), sold in Japan without “Shin Megami Tensei” in its name. Devil Survivor 2 sold 63,000 copies. That’s a better debut than its predecessor, which sold 55,466 copies in its first week back in 2009.

Nintendo also announced its Nintendo 3DS price cut last week, which goes into effect on August 11th. As a result, Nintendo 3DS sales dipped well below average. One can probably expect to see low 3DS hardware sales numbers (for this week) in next week’s chart as well, until the price drop’s effect is reflected in the August 18th chart.
