R-Type Final 2 Crowdfunding Being Held for the Third Time

The first R-Type Final 2 crowdfunding campaign was held on Kickstarter in June 2019. However, it was only available for a week. Granzella then launched an additional crowdfunding session with a longer duration of one month in October 2019. By the time the second campaign closed, Granzella had collected 118,673,775 yen (approximately $1,094,459) from 10,076 backers.

The unfulfilled stretch goals from past campaigns could be unlocked once again in this new session. Granzella plans to reproduce a stage from R-Type II at $1.1 million mark and the 1st and 3rd stages from the original R-Type at the $1.3 million and $1.5 million goals, respectively. The highest stretch goal, which is $2 million dollars, will allow the team to produce a total of 102 R-craft. More decals will also be unlocked when there are enough people following the game’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.

This new campaign can only accept payments through PayPal. It still has reward tiers that let you get a copy of the game, a soundtrack, an art book, and/or a T-shirt. The highest tier available is ÂĄ55,000 (approximately $500) and lets you get the Kickstarter-exclusive R-craft and Force. The even higher tiers, which previously let backers make their own contributions to the game like R-craft, weapons, decals, and enemies, are no longer available.

Finally, Granzella also clarified that the soundtrack and art book backer rewards will have more exclusive tracks and images than the Inaugural Flight Edition that will be released in the West by NIS America.

R-Type Final 2 is currently in development for the PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A demo will release around February or March 2021, and the full game will be available in Spring 2021.
