SMT V Feng Huang Ho-Oh Phoenix

Feng Huang Will Rise From the Ashes in SMT V

Atlus revealed Feng Huang as the tenth demon in its Shin Megami Tensei V Daily Devil series. The holy bird is the first creature in the video series announced as part of the Avian race in SMT V.

Feng Huang has gone by several names across the SMT franchise, and it is often confused with Suzaku. The design for Feng Huang in SMT V is actually quite similar to Suzaku’s SMT II look. One of the Four Holy Beasts in Chinese mythology, the mythical bird appeared in Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal as Phoenix. According to legend, Feng Huang only appears during times of peace. However, the setting of SMT V might suggest otherwise.

[Editor’s Note: Just for clarification’s sake, Suzaku has been localized as Feng Huang in the past. Feng Huang has never been localized as Suzaku, however. It seems like ATLUS has settled on Phoenix for the most part, with some exceptions. It remains to be seen what SMT V will go with. Localization is scary.]

The SMT V reveal trailer depicts Feng Huang with a varied list of skills. The holy bird will be able to use buff, debuff, healing, wind, and fire abilities.

Atlus continues to reveal playable demons like Feng Huang leading up to the November launch of SMT V on Switch. So far, the company has confirmed the following nine demons for the JRPG:

  1. Jack Frost
  2. Amanozako
  3. Fionn mac Cumhaill
  4. Angel
  5. Daimon
  6. Mermaid
  7. Mandrake
  8. Arioch
  9. Kumbhanda

Shin Megami Tensei V will launch on Nintendo Switch in Japan on November 11, 2021, and worldwide on November 12, 2021. Teased in the Feng Huang reveal, the next demon in Atlus’ Daily Devil series appears to be Inugami.
